Dubuque Regional Humane Society- Exceptional facility in our community!
We had the opportunity to meet with Angie Hertig of the Dubuque Regional Humane Society for a tour of their HUGE facility and loads of info about this great organization!
The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is a non-kill shelter with open admission (Click here for more info), and boy are they working wonders! In 2016 they cared for 2,491 animals & 1,927 families found their furry friends from DRHS, not only that but 244 families were reunited with their lost pets! That is nothing short of amazing! The average stay for both cats & dogs is about 13 days- learning that makes it easier on the heart while visiting these sweet animals!
The amount of information in regards to the shelter is endless and their staff is extremely knowledgeable! There was so much to see and take in on the tour- we went thru multiple cat/kitten rooms, 3 different dog kennel areas, play rooms where families can interact with their pets while browsing, the clinic which was exceptionally large, little critters room housing a turtle & a hampster, and many exam rooms.
After the tour Angie enlightened me on some of the changes they have made to the facility all because of the great supportive community we all call home- that is something to be very proud of! Last year they put in closing windows in their cat boxes to prevent illness and it is actually down 46% already this year! Care Suites were also built which are 2 large rooms connected with a divider that can also covert to one large room to accommodate all breeds of dogs, along with more than one dog, or a mom and her pups.
EXIT is very excited to join forces with the DRHS to contribute to positive change and support within our community!
